I spent the summer of 2021 working at Surrey Urban Mission Society—a housing shelter organization—as their graphic design and communications intern. One of the most impactful parts of my job was getting to know some of the guests and staff, and listening to each of their life stories. I would always come away thinking, even though our circumstances aren’t the same, we aren’t so different as humans.
This is a google ad series I developed for unhoused awareness inspired by this idea using the photography I took during the summer.
This is a selection of some of my favorite photos I took for social and web. We leaned into gritty, black-and-white photography that shares an authentic point of view of living and working at a shelter.
